Mobile Devices

The ActiveSync protocol is also called "Exchange® ActiveSync®" or "AirSync" as it allows synchronization directly to Exchange (and Exchange-like) servers and can be performed "over-the-air", meaning directly from a mobile device to the server without the use of a synchronization.

    User Benefits:
  • Access from Anywhere - full over-the-air synchronization of E-mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks.
  • Store all critical data on a centralized server - if the mobile device is lost, then you still have your primary data located on the server.
  • Two-way synchronization - updates on the phone get applied to the central CommuniGate Pro server repository, and updates on the server (via Webmail or other Unified Communications applications) get applied to the mobile devices.
  • "Standardized" protocol that is available on many different devices.
  • Exchange-like access with the scalability and power of CommuniGate Pro, including the flexibility of using many different access methods for different needs.
  • CommuniGate Pro's ActiveSync implementation uses a Direct-Push Technology called the "PING" method or command. The server sends notifications about new items over this connection and the client synchronizes to get the new items.

Mobile devices which support ActiveSync include two types:

- Windows Mobile®-based Devices
Exchange ActiveSync compatibility is built into Windows Mobile-based devices using Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0.

- ActiveSync-enabled Devices
There are a variety of non-Windows-Mobile devices which provide applications which support ActiveSync.

    These include:
  • DataViz® "RoadSync" application
  • Nokia® "Mail for Exchange" application - included on E-series devices E50, E61, E62
  • Sony® Ericsson® (based on DataViz RoadSync) - includes devices P990, M600, W950
  • Palm® - 700 Series Smartphone, Treo™ 680, Treo 650, LifeDrive™ Mobile Manager
  • Motorola® MOTOSYNC™ application on Motorola A780 and A910
  • Symbian® - various applications
  • Helio® Ocean device
