The joint project profiled a large mobile carrier with 25 million subscribers utilizing the CommuniGate Pro Dynamic SIP Farm application server

The company’s IMS solution running on the IBM System z mainframe was tested at IBM’s lab in Montpelier, France. The solution demonstrated the high performance and scalability required by carrier environments that support millions of concurrent accounts and use multiple forms of Internet Communications.

The service and clustering capabilities of CommuniGate Pro SIP Farm paired with the reliability and efficiency of the IBM System z mainframe provide the IMS architecture that service providers are seeking to support both current subscriber levels and future growth of VoIP and other IP Communications Services.

The joint solution offers carriers a foundation that allows subscribers to access applications and services switching from one network to another with one account for all forms of communications.

The System z mainframe demonstrated excellent overall scalability as the number of Linux virtual machines tested was increased to a maximum of 20 running the CommuniGate Pro SIP Farm Dynamic Cluster under z/VM, the mainframe virtualization technology. As the number of virtual machines was increased, the throughput increased near-linearly. z/VM enabled very efficient utilization of mainframe resources while meeting throughput objectives with a growing workload.
